The SDSU
travel class to Vietnam has successfully completed their longest leg of the
journey, and we are now sitting in the Tokyo airport! Listening to the
students’ Who Am I presentations, I believed that most, if not all, had
travelled internationally before, so I was surprised that several of these 24
fine students had yet to fly over the ocean. I asked them how they were feeling
about the upcoming flight. Nervousness
about flying over the ocean, the food on the plane, and the length of the
flight topped the concerns. Elle, whose
pig Belly made it to the finals for Little I, was excited to spend time reading
on the flight because she is too busy to read at home! I hope she has a good
book. Abby, Mallory, and Katherine, while
nervous about some parts of this new adventure, were more excited than nervous
and were looking forward to Vietnam’s people, culture, and food. I believe they are all in for a treat!
However, we
were off to a late start as we sat in Sioux Falls for an hour and a half
because of high winds in Denver. Luckily for me, Meghan shared that her morning
devotion dealt with patience. I needed
the reminder as we waited to fly off to Denver. Luckily, our flight in Denver
waited for us (and others) and we were on our way! Thank you, family and
friends, for your prayers and best wishes for safe travels and marvelous
experiences!
It's
midnight Tuesday and everyone is checked into their rooms. We left the Hanoi Airport and walked into
“the Wall” as we left the airport. At 11
pm it was 84F and >90% humidity.
Don’t think we’ll hear the term “wind chill” for a long time.
Tomorrow is
a big day starting off going to the US Embassy and then finishing up the day at
the Vietnam National University of Agriculture. Good night all.
